Scope and Content Note

This series consists of the legislative records of Assemblyman Edward J. Amann, Jr., created and compiled from 1951-1966. The records include correspondence with constituents, invitations, memoranda, news clippings, pamphlets, and telegrams concerning issues discussed in the Assembly during 1966; as well as bills, letters, press releases, reports, salary schedules and vouchers of the Joint Legislative Committee on Unemployment Insurance and the Claims Committee. The series is divided into three subseries: General Correspondence, Joint Legislative Committee on Unemployment Insurance, and Claims Committee.

Subseries 1, General Correspondence, 1960-1966: Contains correspondence, invitations, memoranda, news clippings, pamphlets, and telegrams relating to issues discussed in the Assembly, mainly during 1966. Records relate to such subjects as: education, insurance, medical assistance, taxes, New York City Transportation Agency, New York City transit strike of 1966, and water pollution.

Subseries 2, Joint Legislative Committee on Unemployment Insurance, 1951-1966: Contains bills, letters, memoranda, press releases, manuals, pamphlets, monographs, reports, salary schedules, vouchers, and annual reports concerning the activities of the Joint Legislative Committee, of which Assemblyman Amann was elected chairman in 1963. Records relate to such subjects as: unemployment insurance tax rates, financing and benefit amounts, unemployment insurance laws concerning dependents, allowances, labor and management view of unemployment insurance, claimants of unemployment insurance compensation funds, and retirement and survivors' benefit programs.

Subseries 3, Claims Committee, 1961-1964: Contains bills, correspondence, memoranda, and reports of Assembly bills concerning the Court of Claims. The first folder contains general information; subsequent folders include bills and claims introduced into the Assembly from January 4, 1951 to February 21, 1961.
