Edward J. Amann, Jr., Republican, was elected to the New York State Assembly in the 1952 general election, representing the 65th district of Richmond County. During his thirteen years in office, Assemblyman Amann sponsored and enacted into law many bills of benefit to civil service workers. He also sponsored and enacted into law the state's minimum wage law. He was chairman of the Joint Legislative Committee on Unemployment Insurance (elected in 1963), a member of the Joint Legislative Committee on Mental Retardation and Physical Handicap, and a member of the Claims Committee.
