Scope and Content Note

This series consists of microfilm copies of New York-related material found in a larger collection of Revolutionary War records compiled by the United States War Department. The New York-related documents form part of a subset of the War Department Collection of Revolutionary War Records designated "miscellaneous numbered records", commonly known as the "Manuscript File". The miscellaneous numbered records pertain generally to military operations, service of individuals, and settlement of accounts related to military service or provision of supplies or other services required by the military.

New York records include accounts of officers and enlisted men; certificates concerning assignment of pay, receipt of money, issuance of letters of administration, performance of service, and nonindebtedness of officers; pay orders and correspondence concerning pay and settlement of accounts; powers of attorney; receipts for pay and supplies; appointments and resignations of officers; petitions to the state legislature for pay; enlistment papers; and lists of certificates issued for pay.

Also included are returns of provisions, correspondence, accounts, military orders, orders for delivery of supplies, receipts for supplies and money, and other records removed from pension application files of New York servicemen.
