A full description of the Miscellaneous Numbered Records (The Manuscript File) in the War Department Collection of Revolutionary War Records is available at the New York State Archives. Records from the New York State Comptroller's Office, which were borrowed and copied by the War Department in 1896, are described and name indexes are provided in New York in the Revolution as Colony and State (Comptroller's Office, Albany, 1904).
